Substances

Substances

A Poem by Emily Irene.
"

Autobiographical.

"

Does it always have to take
alcohol, chemicals - substances -

to recapture my childhood love of life?

A xanax here,

some vodka there.

Isn't there a way to feel that freedom

without killing the parts that shield me from it?

All I ever ask for

is a few hours of carefree love

inside my head.
