The You I Love

The You I Love

A Poem by Emily Irene.
"

About my dad, as per usual.

"
I hear the songs
and they make my mascara run
because you made this for me
back when life was still okay
and life was still sane
before someone took over your soul
and began masquerading as you.
How do I know they've gotten to you?
Because at night the monsters under my bed
come out to play
and all I want
is to call out, "Dad!"
and have you chase them away
like you used to
but you won't come if I call out
and the you I love always would have.
