Asphodel MeadowsA Poem by SchyalaAn extended metaphor on depression, comparing it to the Greek mythology world of Asphodel meadows, where souls wander around lost for all eternity,
Asphodel Meadows
Lost in the everlasting chasm of life, undefined by
boundaries Not accepted into the eternal jubilance of Elysium Yet not tormented by malady in Tartarus, just the
absence of life The solitude of ulterior souls encompassing the
cinerarium Not able to converse, but utter silent pandemonium Welcome to Asphodel Meadows, the soul emporium
So equip us with the golden coins, one for each eye
and cross our arms Send us to Charon on a boat across the river of Styx Already lost in charisma craved cave, begging for
emotion Despair and emptiness fills our dismal somber mix Remedy and thoughtful questions aren’t such an easy
fix Welcome to Asphodel Meadows, where we all resemble
Nyx
Illusive to forever, destitute for now, reach for
the lustrous So close yet so immersed, never to be caught It taunts and Haunts our pessimistic thoughts, mocks
with love and verity All that can be done is wade through the deluging
pool of naught Denouement all cynical thoughts, we are not alive
but death has not been brought Welcome to Asphodel Meadows, where all loss is
