Fallen Cause

Fallen Cause

A Poem by SypherDostravius

Upon awakening

I find myself

Dressed in white

Not sure where I am

Or how I got here

Head hurts

My eyes water

I walk forward

Searching for a way out

The brightness hurts my eyes

In a flash

I am taken to a battlefield

And realize I was in this war

I see my comrades

And call out to them

But to no avail

I try to grab one by the arm

But I pass right through him

I turn to the trenches and find

My body torn to shreds

And it all comes flooding back

“Uncle Sam needs you.”

“Son do your country proud.”

“Incoming Frag!!!”

Then nothing but black and white

Soldiers salute my coffin

The president waves the flag

As they lower me into my grave

To be forgotten

Like so many other youths

God Bless America indeed….
