The Accident

I started to spin

Before I knew it

I had left my body

My mind free floating

Towards some unknown destination

The tapping on my window

Snaps me back

My hands on the wheel

My foot on the brake

My heart racing

I step out

A hand on my back

I look up and realize

There had been

An accident

The cause: Me

I walked toward

The other vehicle

No one seemed hurt

My head clouded

I did not sense the cold

I sat in the police car

And filled out the forms

Time was a blur

And it felt like ages

I did not even remember

Driving home

I fell asleep

Just wanting to drown

The deafening noise

I woke with a headache

And bad visuals

The wine did nothing

To stem the pain

I retrace my steps

Of the previous day

And shut my eyes of the terrible sight

My baby is damaged

No longer able to run

Now I take the bus

And that is no fun…
