Brother Companions

Brother Companions

A Poem by Mike L. Smyth

She is standing alone on the stage

Bleeding her heart out, explaining her purpose

The crowd speaks not, to awe stricken

Her words catch in her throat

I watch intently, with anger

Surrounded by others like me

A single, hot tear forms from her eye

Sliding down and scolding her red cheeks

An uproar starts, as she seizes up

I join in with my Brother Companions

A chorus of boo’s fill the air

Like an orchestra drowning out the surroundings

A helpless expression appears on her face

Blinded by hate, I am one with the crowd
