Flashes From Eternity

Flashes From Eternity

A Poem by Dean

I see them as the fleeting meteors,
entering our world, and just for us
against contrasting skies so we may know
of their desire not to intrude
but gift us with their greeting
and their love--to show us
that we all are one.  Their lights
are ours; their mission, signaling;
their inspiration, a quixotic joy--
where sacrifice is ecstasy, and death
is life beyond the cruel reality
we understand.

Who has not caught sight of them?
Helen Keller knew them; those
deprived of intellect, as well.
The excitement of "aha!" is given
freely to the indigent, the limbless
and the lost.  All humankind
are visited.  And all the watchers
on the other side will smile with us.

True, it isn't always happy nor of cheer.
But always it is mindful of all time, our need
and all galactic scale.
Always, it emerges as
the burst of consciousness, then absorbed
within the whole--a faithful friend.

It is forever calling...
that subtle reminder that
there is no isolation measuring
all that is imagined,
or ascribed to the divine.
That there is enmity somewhere
is a thought well-entertained
by hopelessness,
the gospel creed of "no."

It is insight
with its gentle flashing in the night.
Soul-trained, it comes
from deep inside us,
as we stop and watch, and breathe
a new, refreshed humanity we carry
not so very far away,
and ready at our will.

Like a raindrop within the ocean or the letters within a poem, your poem is a page in the volume of universal truth. We are one of all and all in one in this great big circle of life. Your words are a breath of wind.
