Feed Me

Feed Me

A Poem by Dean

There is a hunger ceasing not
though worlds unite
in philanthropic ventures with a zeal
to please both cynic and the credulous
who travel down the lanes
of roads and streets of poverty,
assuring mendicants of their response.

It is not enough.  Faint-hearted,
I am unaware of all the sumptuous tapestries
depicting the largesse that surely
must abound--they mean nothing for my need.

I have tasted of the riches of the earth
and from the reaches of the universe beyond
and still I search, and altogether restlessly.
Deep inside, and ever more profound
the throbbing hunger will not die,
its pleading outcry never through:

Feed me!
Feed me you.

You have expressed the dominant subconscious goal of humanity. Our long sought after paradise is always located just beyond that furthest horizon. This is why our future is in stars, and our quest is for Freedom. Cervantes expressed as much in his novel “Don Quixote”. (Feed me, feed me Dulcinea!)

I guess I had forgotten about Cervantes...though I love the tale and its implications. Thanks for r.. read more
I think there's a vacuum, an emptiness, a hunger within us all for that something that we know exists beyond us, outside of us, over us. We reach for it, and our hands come back empty, as if feeling through a ghost. Perhaps, we are all haunted by that which exceeds us; and we hunger for its presence.

Nicely penned.
