There is a hunger ceasing not
though worlds unite
in philanthropic ventures with a zeal
to please both cynic and the credulous
who travel down the lanes
of roads and streets of poverty,
assuring mendicants of their response.
It is not enough. Faint-hearted,
I am unaware of all the sumptuous tapestries
depicting the largesse that surely
must abound--they mean nothing for my need.
I have tasted of the riches of the earth
and from the reaches of the universe beyond
and still I search, and altogether restlessly.
Deep inside, and ever more profound
the throbbing hunger will not die,
its pleading outcry never through:
Feed me!
Feed me you.
