The Peace I Understand

The Peace I Understand

A Poem by Dean

It is enough
to crawl inside my fuzzy faith
and sleep upon my soporific pillow,
clutching to my breast
my favorite God

(you know the one)
who keeps the fetid, dying children far away,
though quite secure within their refuge
underneath strong wings of steel,
then sends his fierce angelic legions
hovering
above my rest.

Lovely imagery...and a questioning of sorts. "It is enough/to crawl inside my fuzzy faith" -- is it? I feel that this is a statement that is begging to be "answered" as though it is a question. You really do a wonderful job of taking the reader on a journey with this one. Superb language, and a great example of "less is sometimes more". Well done!!!!

Always perplexing questions when it comes to God & faith....not sure the angels are in the right zone...much food for thought here.

I think there are already signs everywhere....we ignore them.

Ahhh, right! ;-)
So many things are "allowed"
My doubt grows daily
Who is there to blame
Who is there to ask of-

Somehow "God bless us everyone" seems so passe ..
Life tells us what is real, but we sometimes choose to look the "other way" ..

I want peace .. I want joy .. I need Love/food
So many questions .. so few answers it seems
Maybe we were just created as an amusement ..

Many thoughts to ponder .. wow ! Jazz

You can still count them, without being one of them ..:)............♥

good point
While many cosy up and settle down for a good night's sleep bellies well filled, many others (especially children) know not the well being of replenishing sleep, only the anguish they feel from the hunger pangs of a distended stomach crying out for nourishment!

If you are fortunate enough to be the former as opposed to the latter, do you ever ask yourself, why God chooses not to intervene ? ( I do ) !

Yes, but there is peace past understanding too...

all peace is past understanding
Despite its apparent brevity, this is one of the longest, most complex poems I have ever written. Ironic, yes, but as I read it now years later, takes me ever farther on. For once, I hit it right.

And this I think I understand Dean. The God that we construct. And we airbrush out the parts we don't want? A bespoke god?
