I've seen him only once and then but feet away outside the streetcar window; whether he saw me, or fled my sight deliberately I cannot say, however
I still sense him near, and might it be that I shall meet him only on the day I die-- some kind of irony in store? Yet how I wish there might be more,
that I might probe his psyche as he brushes mine. And does he pine for yet another glimpse of me confirming that October day some fifty years ago when I was bourne away?
But many many times strangers have stopped me in the store, and said, "Oh my God, you look just like my......" .. I was adopted before my second Birthday, always wondered if there was a twin or look alike sister out there .. In 2007 I found my birth Mother, and my dear Brother, we look like twins ! .. that is as close as I have come to seeing a doppelganger...
Good One.. !! ; because it makes us wonder, and maybe even wish ...
A bit of humor injected in this one. I liked it. It is said we all have a double. It would be quite a "trip" to meet mine and share thoughts. Your words flowed well in this one. Good enjambment in the lines. Lydi*
I was on a plane one time and saw the exact image of my sister-in-law. They say we all have a twin somewhere right? I'd like to see if mine has lost his hair too. Good poem.

Did you speak with her?

No, she was in front of me while we were waiting to board but then I lost her after that.
I know of one sure way that I'd recognize mine...she'd better have two different colored eyes!
This reminded me of those feelings I know we are all familiar with...like we've been in a certain place and time before, or we're overwhelmingly drawn to something that we have no clue about.
" Yet how I wish
there might be more,
that I might probe his psyche
as he brushes mine."
i have never met mine either...except within me...i have at least two selves..the normal self and the writer self---
and when they look in the mirror, what do they see?
this gave me a chill...that would be so weird to see that exact duplicate of us...and they say everyone has one.

perhaps one could wonder about the all-knowing, ubiquitous "they"
The title grabbed me as I've written my own Doppelganger poem. I like the flow of this and the questioning, wondering..
And does he pine
for yet another glimpse of me
confirming that October day

when I was bourne away?
that gave me chills.. I've often wondered the same. Great job, Dean.

Perhaps you witnessed your spirit self...? This is a thought provoking piece; reminds me of a movie I once saw where people had Dopplegangers living normal lives, and these people were actually grown to be "donors" for those people---yes, morose than your story, but a beautiful story none the less.
I think that to we have all experienced this...where we have gotten so close to the brink of pure understanding that we have nearly converged with that spirit self that will, perhaps, give us all the answers and all the feelings that we need, only to have it blourne away on a breeze. Beautifully written piece with many different interpretation possibilities. Lovely...

Thanks, my girl. You are always open to everything a poem brings, and I love that.
