Word Vomit 07 - NightHunterA Story by NightWatchWhen the sun falls and predators under the moon come out, only one man dares protect the innocent.
Even though it was dark out, I could see everything on the street very clearly. Trash bins lined the sidewalk, next to their brethren the recycling bins. Old buildings loomed overhead, an occasional light from a window glaring menacingly into my soul. There were street lights, but most of them were broken and in desperate need of repair. Those that did shine light usually revealed a drug transaction. I avoided the street lights.
I looked at my phone. S**t, I thought, I've only got 12% left on my battery... I put my phone back in my pocket. Can't have the locals seeing that I have a phone. I might get mugged. "Hey, little boy," a crackling voice hissed from behind me. I didn't turn around. My pace quickened with my heartbeat. I was not about to deal with crazy people. I turn the corner and... dead end. I'm trapped! I panic. What do I do? What do I do?! "It's alright, I'm not gonna hurt ya," said the creepy voice, "Not a lot, anyway..." I turned to see who was going to assault me. If I could get a look at his face, then I could get him arrested... maybe... Most of his teeth were missing, and those that remained were covered in black tar. His eyes seemed to glow red in the darkness. In the center of his face was an obnoxiously large nose covered in acne, on either side were wrinkles hidden inside a scraggly beard. Suddenly, an explosion resounded. The man's face appeared to be inside-out;flaps of skin dangled from where his face used to be and blood spurted like a fountain. I screamed in horror as the man crumpled to the ground, revealing the man who shot him. "Th-thank you..." I stammered. "You should get out of here before the cops show up," he said blankly. He then turned around and started walking away, sirens blaring in the distance. That was my first encounter with the superhero NightHunter and the beginning of my career in journalism, hoping to someday interview the elusive man.
