Either Way

Either Way

A Poem by BlueRibbon
"

What will you do when your life gets better but you're left with all the scars?

"

Spill thoughts on a blank page,

Watch the ideas catch flame and

What will you blame misfortunes of love,

When no record exists?

Ink will burn away as the hours turn to days,

As a pure comparison of everyone to yourself,

Looking at a poor reflection of what you could be,

It buries itself like the burden of guilt,

Just so you can claim another soul

such a massive weight.

And what of it will you make?

Maybe to use your emotions as a mechanism to wait

Until someone falls for your trap,

For Misery's sake.

Well, I AM A SHEEP, yes to the horrors of the world,

For terrible motives break us as a child,

I remember when being a sheep was nothing more than something in a school play.

Heh...

And when I missed that chance to leave such a horrible place,

and I can't stand so much abuse around me I wonder why I stay,

No lessons learned in school prepared me for what I would have to pay,

I feel played.

I wondered why

At night, this silence breaks me,

I would give up my world if it meant never getting to see your face.

Maybe all of this is a mistake.

In return for my regret,

I've forgotten safety in my soul,

I'm held to a strange standard

Of actions I can't forget.

Forever.

for these demons demand to visit me,

And what you hold dear is nothing but an idea to remind me.

An idea that catches fire at the sound of a whisper.

Burned into ink that remains on a blank page.

Don't let it go missing.

You are right, school education never prepared us for harsh and cruel life lessons that are thrown our way so mercilessly, cutting deep into our core to the point that we lose our hopeful spark and optimistic smile and laughter. And then our heavy baggage we force upon others, changing others into very grave sorrowful souls. The cycle never ends. Only self-awareness and realization will break the endless cycle of suffering.
