Take to the windA Poem by Alys JacksonI want to fly away from my home and see the world from a bird's eye view.Flat rooftop, 5th Avenue, New York
He stands there, Hand out-stretched. He calls me on, He wants to take to the wind.
All around us, On other flat roofs, Others take flight, They take to the wind.
I'm different to my family, And so is my brother. We have great wings on our back, We can take to the wind.
My wings are white, Tower high above my head. Light and delicate, I can take to the wind.
The wind rustles through his hair, Flying about his face. I take his hand, Everyone takes to the wind.
Over 43rd street, Under the great blue sky. Pedestrians gaped up at us, When we took to the wind.
His hand in mine, He smiles across to me. I knew I was safe with him, As we took to the wind. © 2011 Alys JacksonAuthor's Note
