Twilight Prince

It spoke three words ...beware...twilight...prince...

Oh, the pain that ripped through him as he transformed. Link's eyes shined in the moonlight as the transformation took place. His ears shrank and his hatr darken to dark brown. His body warpped itself till it took the form it was suppose to. Link no long stood before the four Swordsmen. What stood before them now was a wolf. A shackle clincked as the beast took a step forward. The wolf eyed Ike. Ike seemed to be ready to attack. The dark magic inside him started to rise in him, trying to take over again. 'Come now. Look at him. He wants to kill you.' the dark power said. A growl started in the back of Link's throat. As he fought the dark power for dominace over the body, the body jerked and twitched. Using his speical senses, he could sense Pit step forward. Link barked at him, his eyes flying open. Pit jumped back, scared. 'Good...' Link thought, 'Be scared...' As the stars came out one by one, the beast felt stronger, absorbing all the Twilight and shadows and the dark around them. The beast still adorned the blue earrings he wore as a Hylian. Finally, he was able to push down the evil overlord, Zant, from taking control of his body. Zant is trapped in the Twilight Realm for ever closed away there since Midna broke the only way in or out. Now that Link was in control of the body, he barked to show he was okay now. All of the Swordsmen just stare at the beast. Suprising everyone, Marth is the first one to unfreeze. He walks up to the wolf timidly at first but becoming less and less afraid as he approached. Finally, the ice prince kneeled down by the beast and hesitated. Then with a burst of courage, he placed his hand on top of Link's head. Link nuzzled him, letting know that he won't bite him. Roy approach next, then Ike did. Then after a few mintues Pit set down the sword and came over to Link, petting him on his head. After ten mintues of observing and petting the wolf, Link howled a tune. Pit knew what to do. He got the sword and placed it in front of the beast. Stepping back, all the teens watched as the wolf approached the sword. As he approached a blinding light shone from it. A forceful wind blew at Link, nut he dug his paws into the ground and stayed there as the dark magic was being pulled out of him by the sword's pureness. Pain shot through the hero as he transformed back into a Hylian.

This time Link heard a voice as he turned back. It said three words.

'... Beware... Twilight... Prince...'

A shiver ran down Link's spine as the transformation was completed. After a few quiet mintues, Ike ask, thinking he was missing something, "Why is a wolf the most deadly monster in of all the Twilight Realm?" Link carefully slid back on his necklace and put on his green over-tunic. Link's face grew dark.

Link answered, "It's not. I am the most deadly creature in all of the Twilight Realm because I have a part of Zant in me. When I'm a wolf, in Twilight form you could say, he tries to take me over because this necklace is made of unnatural dark magic. A magic that an evil god gifted Zant with. Midna-" Link hestitated, his heart breaking at the mere mention of her name. He tried again "Midna formed the stone after the sword pulled the magic out of me. The unnatural dark magic allows him into my body, but I have to push him back and out. I was barely able to push him out this time. He's gotten stronger." Link sat down as if worn out. He took a deep breath as everyone let what he said sink in.

Once again suprising everyone, Marth was the first to speak. "Are you okay?" Taken aback, Link say quietly "Yeah..." "Are you sure? You dont seem okay to me?" Marth replied softly. Everyone except Link knew about Marth's ability to read your emotions, even if you think your showing none, and know what your thinking and/or feeling. Link continued to refuse to tell, "I'm fine honest." His voice was soft and weak as if he didn't believe what he said was true. He wasn't looking at anyone. "Please tell me, Link" Marth said, his voice gentle and quiet. This statement made Link look up, and he found himself looking into Marth's deep blue eyes. His face was right in front of the Hylian's. "I... I'm not fine..." Link stated. Something about Marth's eyes made him tell the truth. Maybe it was the intensity of his gaze, or maybe it was the softness of them, or maybe it was because Link was tired of lying to everyone one since he was a hero, and his feelings didn't matter. He had to make sacrifices so others wouldn't have to.

"Okay. So, what's wrong?" Marth asked, his voice softer still. The softnesss of his voice broke Link's cracked and crumbling wall holding back all of his emotions. He lost it. Tears streamed down his face as he spoke "She rejected me. Both of them. They both rejected me. She smashed the mirror. Can never see her again... She is to elegant for the likes of me..." Link's sentences were all strung together, his words coming out jumbled. "Who, Link? Who rejected you?" Marth soothing voice asked. As even more pain-filled tears fell, Link answered "Midna and Zel-Zelda. She rejected me, but I love her!" "Who do you love, Link?" Marth pressed.

"I-I-I... I love Midna..." Then Link went quiet, his tears silencing and his breathing slowed. Did he truly love her? Link wasn't sure anymore. 'Do I love her? Or do I love...' His thoughts trailed off as he looked back into the ice prince's eyes. After putting up a mindblock spell (yes, Zelda taught him how to), he finished his thought 'Marth...?'

An akward silence filled the air, Link staring into Marth's compassionate eyes and Marth staring back. Roy, Ike, and Pit are at a loss for words. Pit was standing particularly close to Ike. "Are you sure you still love her, or are you just holding onto that because you want to believe it so your not alone?" Marth asked. A gasp was heard. Link knew without looking that it was Roy who gaspped. Link opened his mouth to answer then closed it. Was he just lonely? Was that really the reason why his heart broke whenever he was around a loving couple?

Link could tell that Marth knew the answer to his question even though the wounded hero didn't. Marth knew Link was just desperate to be loved. Link never had any parents to take care of him or any place that he fitted in. Link was clinging to false love because love was what he need, wanted, most.

Stopping with that question, Marth stood up and turned to the others and said something that Link didn't hear because he was deep in thought. 'Am I really lonely? Would I be satisfied with Minda's, a Twilight creature's, love? Am I just desperate?' Lost in thought Link didn't hear the others retreat. Marth stayed with Link.

Finally, when Link noticed everyone had left, he stood up and noticed Marth didn't leave him. 'He stayed. Why?' the Hero of Time thought. Alone with Marth, they walked back to the manor in a comforting silence.
