Those Childhood DaysA Poem by Frank PurcellI had such high hopes, but life moved on and had to try keep up.
I remember the days, when the grass was greener, and the sun was brighter
And in my mind, i was the strongest fighter! When we ran, and we laughed, and we used to sing out loud And we used to do the things we were never allowed! I remember those days, we used to read books, and school seemed fun We wouldn't leave a boardgame, until the winner had won! We used to dance in the rain... hell - we used to dance all the time I never had to worry, how long you'd be mine. I remember the day, the sky went dark; and everything changed And My whole life got re-arranged Seven years of friendship, disappeared, and faded into nothing And then i knew my parents hadn't been bluffing I try remember the days, when they said, the big world's coming But i didnt listen, or miss a step in my youthful running I lived and I laughed, and learnt about love when i was so young And happiness seemed to be the only song i ever sung I wish for those days, the summer breeze, left us refreshed and amazed And tears never left my blue eyes glazed We climbed trees when we were sad, waiting for mom to call us down And i marched off into life.... And i hate what i've found. © 2011 Frank PurcellAuthor's Note
