Leftover Language

A Story by Atram Dace
"

This story is the second tale of my short short story collection: Faustina's Surrealist Tales of Lia

"

Faustina pressed her ear against the wall.

She didn`t recall where she had gotten this instruction or what was the point of doing it.  All she knew was that something was going to happen. Sadly, nothing had happened in the first two hours since she had started.  At the third, however, Faustina noticed something wriggling from the light bulb at the centre of Villa Blanca`s expo.

At first, she thought that it was kind of snake but when she stood tip toed, she realized that its bodies were made up of words.

“Did you get the ice cream?” it said.

Faustina stared at the woman outside, and recalled how that woman had said the same words minutes ago. Even the pitch and the speed of the sentence was spot on.

 Is that it, she smiled.

Thirteen more snakes, followed by a hundred or more emerged out of the walls.

Their bodies danced.

They floated.

They juxtaposed each other as they spoke the sentences simultaneously, creating a mix between static and an orchestra.

Is this where the sounds go? She allowed a few of them to tangle around her arm.

“Excuse me but what are you doing?” Faustina looked back to see a person whose top half had been covered by these snakes, as if he had been devoured.
