I am the Heartbreaker

I am the Heartbreaker

A Poem by Saruwa

I have to decide…

was it me? was it you?

what could create such a treacherous gorge

leaving me empty and you to question love

I want to know

was it me? was it you?

how could you say you couldn’t live without me

I’ve found someone new and you’re all alone

I need an answer…

was it me? was it you?

remember that raining night when you kissed my lips

mine now rest elsewhere and yours feel my ghost

I wish you’d tell me…

was it me? was it you?

why do we both feel like failures at fates hand

Now I ache and you are breaking

Without your answers I have come to see

All this time I thought it was you, was him, or them

but it was me- again and again

I hold the knife that cuts deep

For I am the heartbreaker, it was always me.

The truth hurts......once we find it and understand its meaning.

This is a very brave write, asking questions of the poet and the lost lover, and coming to the realisation that it is only oneself that is to blame for the end of the relationship.

There is power in repetition....used very well here, in this poem.
A very admirable, soul searching piece of writing. Nicely done.

Wisdom found by introspection. A wonderful bit of self-discovery to share, dear poet. Nicely crafted.
