Well. "We come from dirt", if you believe the relevant Biblical text. In reality, it's just plants and vegetables etc. which grow from dirt. In England, we almost exclusively refer to it as soil; in this context. In England, we tend to mean dirt in the context of a dirty window, dirty minds or dirty underwear; but we invented the language - so I guess that's why we're sticklers for trying to use it correctly lol.! Anyway, I did get this piece; kind of. That's not always easy, because only the writer knows his or her full motives and inspirations for sure. The garden in this piece is clearly in a sorry state, and the protagonist seems to be both saddened and frustrated by this. So potentially, she's using these garden metaphors to represent those emotions. But, the causes for those feelings? Certainly, only the writer knows for sure.Where it reads "I wanted I wished", it's showing her strong intentions. And, she contrasts those intentions well, with the disappointing and frustrating outcomes in that garden. Thus, representing how our desires and wishes in life; so often contrast with the negative outcomes..? What worked best with this poem for me, is how the writer's emotions rang through - loud and clear. Thanks for sharing.
