Inferno

Inferno

A Poem by Svenny

Stretched out on my quilted bed
bathed in total darkness
Inside burns an inferno
Not one made by man, machine or nature
These flames flicker from the heart
eating from the inside

I crave to scream, but,
fear of flames flickering
‘cross my tongue
holds me silent

Each thought hurts to the core
trying to retrace my steps
remembering what once was,
and never more

I curl into a ball
to suppress this horrid sensation
but the flames sear open my flesh
and pour across my body
leaving the scars of a broken heart

The flames overtake the posters on my wall
Mere showings of my interests
Now, these portraits glare at my twisted figure
as I scream in curdled agony

Burning from the heart
I’ll bleed no more
