My personal feelings on Vietnam veterans, not all will agree...

My Lai blinded us to the war,

We would not admit our fault

With Johnson, the war was, "Americanized."

Does anyone know what the bloodshed was for?

"Law and Order," became the call, from those scared of assualt.

With Nixon, the war was, "Vietnamized."

Our soldiers were forever scarred,

Our soldiers were demonized,

And worst, our soldiers were forgotten...

When they returned, their image was marred.

They faced hatred, and were ostracized.

Respect is what they should have gotten.

"They faced hate" - this line might flow better if "hate" was changed to "hatred"

As for everything else, a great poem and I couldn't agree with you more on your statements. If you ever get a chance, you should read Mark Baker's book called 'Nam. I think that was his name. Very interesting book taken from the stories of the soldiers themselves that he interviewed.

A very sensitive topic to comment on. In the abstract, a mistake is a mistake, and the Vietnam War was more than a mistake. Having said that, I would agree that those who blindly took part in that mistake should not be demonized; a mistake should never be corrected by another mistake.
