Dying

Dying

A Poem by Mariana Silva
"

A man in his final moments takes a few scant moments to see his life objectively...

"

Amongst the suffering corpses,

He laid down his life...

No remorse for the lives taken

Only in the days wasted.

A rustle passes over the corpses

As he reminisces over his wife.

A cry rings out, unforsaken!

Finally bitter death he has tasted.

The strength of death,

Beyond that of mortal man,

Robs him of his breath

Bringing him to his knees.

Gasping for breath,

Reliving the path he ran,

He pathetically pleads with death,

But death, is deaf to his pleas.

Returning to the beginning,

He is once more, home.

He is in the arms of his wife,

Bidding her farewell, one last time.

He's done reminiscing.

His spirit subject to roam,

After a life wasted

Emphasized by a single chime.
