The Tree

The Tree

A Poem by SuzieQ

For years I grew from a tiny little seedling into a majestic tree.

My limbs always swayed so free and beautifully in the wind.

The sun usually came up every morning to brighten my day.

You were the dark mysterious clouds that came to visit me on occasion.

I looked forward to your visits and welcomed the rain that you gave me.

Even know you were not bright like the sun, I truly and deeply loved you.

The birds warned me, I could hear it in their loud cries.

They said to be weary of you because you will hurt me.

I ignored them and then one day a storm bellowed in the sky.

Through the wind you yelled at me and my fragile leaves fell.

Your breath made my branches be pushed back to the point they cracked.

Tears of golden yellow sap oozed from my wounds.

Fierce words you spoke and I felt them deep within the rings of my being.

Suddenly bright lightening appeared, zigzagging the sky.

Again you said such thunderous words of hate to me.

I cried and begged you to stop and then you jolted me with pain of electricity.

Red and orange flames appeared burning my bark.

You felt bad and tried to soothe me with your droplets of tears.

It was too late, your words were the fire that burned the best parts of me.

You were the lightning and I was the tree.
