Sacrifice

Sacrifice

A Poem by Suzanne Deakins

 Sacrifice

Purple opaque scars

Feelings and pangs of regret

don’t tell the story

only the pain I have known

Regression and sorrow

progression without thought

life without pause

purple opaque scars

Pause

Think

Exist for this moment

quaint qualms

A slave to my scars

purple opaque lines

attaching me to the pain

just stop a minute

Exist for this moment only

pause, think, exist

slave to my addiction

of pain and hurt

haunted by my past

tasting the time that wears

behind my flesh

no sacred place to flee

dead space

wasted tissue

rattling bones within a shell

purple opaque scars

pause a moment

think for this time

silent confusion

progression backward

can you feel me?
