IllusionsA Poem by Vishuddha
Everyone needs illusions.
Mine say the clouds are not radioactive, The sea is not filled with mutations, And, starfish do not melt. They say cities do not contain cannibals, Who eat their victims alive. They say psychopaths don't loiter on the street corners, And, not everyone is trying to eat something. They say that I am the unreasonable voice of the bullroarer, And, that when I speak everyone can hear me. And, they say, If you wrestle hard enough with your horoscope, In the end, you might come out ahead. My illusions say we are all in this together. I say you are who you are, And, illusions are unavoidable. I wouldn't change even if I could. Everyone ought to get what they deserve, And, who am I to object? [January 2015] © 2015 VishuddhaReviews
