ADDICTION

ADDICTION

A Poem by Roger Turgeon
"

Lies we tell ourselves

"

ADDICTION

It crawls like a spider between my brain and my skull

My reasoning, once sharp, made murky and dull

“Do it”, it whispers for my lone ears to hear

“You deserve it”, I’m reminded as the occasion draws near

“No one will ever know”, I lie to myself once again

“It won’t happen anymore”, or certainly not often

It is done… but the euphoria is fleeting

Shame and disgust soon arrive for their meeting

A vow is made as it has in each event past

This wasn’t the first time and it won’t be the last

Of all your poems that I've been reading I find this outstanding. Probably because I relate to this so much! That's addiction described so eloquently. Bravo.

I think the hair is cool enough ( : O )
This is powerful in it's truth. The strength an addiction has, especially when it's done in secret, is powerful. This is a good write that hopefully might help anyone struggling with an addiction at least realize that they aren't alone. Great job.

Thanks for the read and comment
Oh my soul. I love it and have no words to justify the stirring of the power in your expression. Its very deep and honest and emotionally descriptive.

Thank you for the kind review ( : O )
We lie to ourselves...saying it won't happen again, I am stronger than that...and yet...as you have so eloquently written...it crawls like a spider...reasoning made murky and dull...it is done..but the euphoria is fleeting.

Anyone who has struggled with addiction will relate to your words.

:) Julie
