NIGHTSCAPEA Poem by Roger TurgeonWritten on an airplane over NYCNIGHTSCAPE Snakes of headlights squirm
through the cold city The night devouring them
without pity Blurred structures reveal
neither corner nor edge Hills frame the outlines of
boulders and ledge Rivers flow tar-like as if to
conceal The bridges and spans of
ebony steel Trees cast their shadows of
darkness on dark Unseen are the leaves or the
evening lark Chance squares of windows
checker the bleak sky No pattern revealed to the
mind’s blind eye Black smoke arises from
unknown causes My lost thoughts turn inward
and time pauses © 2014 Roger TurgeonReviews
