THE BAG

THE BAG

A Poem by Roger Turgeon
"

we all have some baggage

"

The Bag

I brought a bag with me today

It’s with me wherever I go

It’s packed with pain and memories

And things you don’t need to know

The bag’s not sealed or firmly locked

And the latch is loose and jiggles

The only thing that keeps it closed

Are your sweet words and giggles

I’ve had this bag for a while now

It’s been opened once or twice

It’s never pleasant to peek inside

And roll the emotional dice

Over the years I’ve added wheels

To lighten the load and strain

But the bag keeps growing larger

Whenever I encounter pain

I’d like to throw this bag away

I think I can with your aid

I’ve tossed the old pushbuttons

And I’m no longer afraid

My spirit is lighter already

And my hearts no longer a mess

Because I have you in my life

This bag is at last excess

We all carry emotional, spiritual baggage. But we are given the choice whether to hold unto it or to unload it. Sometimes knowing that there is someone who is willing to give a helping hand could give us strength to let go of our pains.

Many of my writes are about acknowledging....then fixing...I'm a hopeless repair man
We all carry our own luggage of life. How light or heavy the bag may be depends on how much experience we have collected during our journey. Excellent use of symbolism, sir, and a wonderful read for me.

I normally am not crazy about poems that follow a strict rhyme scheme but I think you did a good job with it. The formatting is important in your writing but you place it secondary to the story, which I find very effective. Nice work!

I find it much more challenging to write within a defined structure....but that's just me.
We all have baggage... it's a part of life.
I like that you have followed through, showing courage to move on...
Allowing someone into your heart is a wonderful passage to healing.

Well written expression. :)

It's my pleasure. :)
yes roger, we all have some baggage. And the older one gets the larger the bag gets. When I saw
the doctor the other day, I asked him why my patient chart had grown so large over the years
and he told me that if you no longer had a patient chart it meant that you dana were dead...lol.

nicely written sir.

Oh dear....guess I won't toss that bag after all
Seems like I have an entire luggage collection! lol. Wonderful write Roger... i truly enjoyed the idea of another spirit able to help carry the load and eventually unpack these bags that we carry with us. Well done sir!

OH dear... help carrying... yes...but unpacking??? never. Keep the sweet words and giggles coming
Wonderful symbolism here - oh, that baggage we cling to! Great flow and rhyme as well.

Why thank you. I do like to rhyme ( : O )
This is really wonderful. To purge that bag once and for all because we have found someone to help us toss it. The flow was wonderful and this is a poem I am sure all of us can relate to. Nice work.
