THE PEARLA Poem by Roger TurgeonA poem about perseverenceTHE We are at our core just a grain of white sand Shaped and molded by the wind’s left hand Lost in the dune of life’s rolling mound Forever a piece of the desert’s bare ground There are some among us that escape to the sea But most wash ashore on an island lonely A scant few remain on the ocean’s cold floor Shifting in tides as the moon pulls once more Yet there is one that made an oyster their home An unlikely union in a calcium dome She resisted rejection, held steadfast in place Never blinking as nacre formed her new face We gaze on her now and marvel the sight As she reflects all the colors, the colors of light Delicate she seems, for she is just a girl But spirit and strength made her a pearl © 2014 Roger Turgeon |
