NOT YOUR CLOWN

NOT YOUR CLOWN

A Poem by Roger Turgeon
"

An exercise in using all the images of a circus to describe a simple man. Enjoy ( : O )

"

NOT YOUR CLOWN

I AM NOT YOUR CLOWN

DON’T INTEND TO BE

DON’T MISTAKE MY SMILE

FOR INSINCERITY

NO LIPS ARE PAINTED ON

NO WIG UPON MY HEAD

WHAT’S THERE TO SEE IS REAL

AND NOT A MASK INSTEAD

NO GREASEPAINT ON MY FACE

OR DISTRACTING BEARDED LADY

I AM NAKED TO THE WORLD

EXPOSED WITH NOTHING SHADY

NO MINI BUS OF MIDGETS

WITH GREAT BIG FLOPPY SHOES

THE COMPANY THAT I KEEP

ARE THE ONES I CHOOSE

NO BAGGIE PANTS OF PLAID

OR HONKING HORNS ALOUD

I CHOSE YOU FOR MY FRIEND

FROM AMONG THE MADDING CROWD

NO RED BALL ON MY NOSE

NOR PADDLE FOR MY A*S

WHAT WE SHARED THUS FAR

WILL NOT THAT QUICKLY PASS

NO GUNS THAT NEVER BANG

OR WATER BOTTLE SPRAY

YOU WILL NOT BE DECEIVED

PLEASE TRUST THE WORDS I SAY

NO SCARVES THAT NEVER END

NOR SNAKES IN A TIN CAN

THERE IS NO MAGIC HERE

I’M JUST A SIMPLE MAN

He is what he is, a simple man who speaks his mind. His words are direct, but they're sincere and genuine. Wonderful piece!

Oh gawd, how much do I abhor clowns, they scare the bejaysus out of me....your poem on the other hand, I enjoyed, albeit the caps are a bit jarring, but there's a clown for ya...simple is sometimes best...

I too feel clowns are creepy...but this was fun to write. I'm glad you enjoyed it.
