Glad I had him in my life

It was a rainy evening. Sadhavi just came from her classes as she was in her 12th grade where accounts always sucked her. She threw her bag on the bed and laid down. As usual she took her cell phone and kept on scrolling until she could find someone to talk with. She had a habit of talking to someone once she was back from her classes. Her eyes stuck on one name Yug. He was Raj’s friend. She had heard a lot about him. Even Yug knew her but just by her name and had seen many a time as living in the same small town. She quickly opened the text box and typed Hi! and left the phone aside. As usual she was getting late for her regular stuff to complete.  She quickly completed her stuff while she heard her phone beeped with a text. She saw he was Yug. She quickly opened the text. It said Hi! Who’s this?

She replied: Your Friend 😊  

She was about to just keep the phone where again her phone beeped with another text from him. 

Yug: Sounds good, an unknown friend 😉

She: Hey! It’s me Sadhavi. 

Yug: Oh! Hi 😊 How did you get my number?

She: Actually, I had saved your number once when Raj had called me from your cell.

Yug: Oh! Acha. 😊 Anyways it’s good to get a new friend 😊

She: Yaahhh! Me too 😊

Yug: So, how’s your school going on?

She: Going as usual busy and boring. ☹

Yug: Oh! 

She: But now only a few months then I will fly like a bird. 

Yug: Woooo. Sounds great. So, where have you planned to pursue your Bachelor’s degree? 

She: Most probably in your city. 

Yug: Sounds really great! Do pursue it there itself, as it gives many future career options. 

She: Hope for the same. 😊

Yug: Ya. 😊

And this way they met with just a simple Hi! where her life changed. She was from a small town where there were only schools. Students had to leave that town for their further studies after 10th or 12th. Yug had completed his 10th and was pursuing his Diploma in Mechanical Engineering where he too left his hometown.  It was now only three months left for Sadhavi’s board exams.  She daily used to chat with him as and when she used to text him, he always was there for her. It became a habit for both of them to at least exchange talks whenever required. They just used to talk about all the crazy things they would do once they were in the same city. 

Time flew. Her results were out and now she was moving to the same city where Yug was there. She excitedly informed him everything and now both were waiting for the time to meet. It was almost a week where she was not able to talk to him because of managing the Pg to live, food, college admission etc. It was now the time they decided to meet as she was new and was unaware about any places there. Finally, he came to pick her and at least for a week they just roamed like lovers in spite of what others thought and explored maximum places in the city. It was then a month that she had explored all the city malls, cinema halls, shopping centres, cafeteria and what not. 

Days changed into months and then into years. They used to spend a lot of time hanging out chilling and enjoying. They were at such heights to which people called them lovers but the truth was, they were very close friends. It really did not matter to them what others thought but in reality, they were more than friends but less than lovers. They were at such heights where they almost knew everything about each other, their weakness, strengths, likes, dislikes, mood swings etc. It was then they didn’t know that time will then change and will separate each other. 

It was almost three years they were so use to, that they hardly noticed. Now it was their fate who was testing their patience. Sadhavi’s graduation was almost completed and so was Yug’s degree too. For his further education now Yug had to move to a different and far city. He had to anyways go because he didn’t have any option to stay. She was upset and so was he. 

Finally, he left. She was all alone even though having new friends, she use to miss his absence like hell. He too missed her but now he had to focus on his studies that was his final destination to make his career. His absence made her understand that she was in love with him. But she never shared these feelings with him. 

Days changed into months and now she noticed that he hardly gave time. Months passed by and finally she found an opportunity to pursue her further studies and decided to move to the same city again where Yug was there. She always thought that things would be back to normal once she was there in the same city. Finally, one day she informed him about her further studies and both became normal as usual but didn’t think this would last long.

Months later, she shifted and both again met, again had the same time they had previously. She shared everything that she felt once he left except her feelings for him and days passed on. They were happily enjoying their studies and life again. Almost after many months instead of focusing more on studies Yug started to give maximum time to her. He daily uses to find an excuse to meet her in the evenings. She too didn’t ever hesitate to meet. 

Once Yug asked her to hangout as usual.  As always, they used to meet in the cafeteria and talk, laugh and share almost everything. But that day she didn’t ever expect that this day would change their life. As usual they talked, laughed, ate and enjoyed but while departing Yug asked the most difficult question to her. He proposed to her. She was shocked for a moment, where he told her everything about what he felt for her. He also told her to take her own time to think as he never had such sort of feelings for her before. She didn’t utter a word at that moment.  They departed and she was just in a blank state of mind. 

Days went on thinking of what to answer Yug while meeting at the weekend. No doubt she too had feelings but she also wanted him to first have a good future. She thought for days before meeting him. She wanted to have him more than a friend and just as a lover but she always believed everything had the correct time. She didn’t want to divert his mind as he was one of the most talented guys she knew. Finally, she decided to meet him on the weekend. 

Yug: Hey!

She: Hi!

Yug: So?

She: Look Yug. It has been years we are together and I know you very well. So, before moving to any point I just wanna tell you that please stop thinking about this stuff. We are here together for our bright future. Instead of focusing on other stuff we should concentrate more on our studies. 

Yug didn’t utter a word and silently listened to her.

She continued: I suppose everything has a time. And I guess this is the right time to focus on our studies,to have a secure and a bright future. 

Yug was still silent.

She: Look I don’t know what you might be thinking but the truth is let’s not waste our time and focus on our studies. 

Yug: Ya, you are right. 

She: Great you got my point.

They then as usual talked about other things and departed the cafeteria but who knew life will change then. She was also in love with him but she thought of having these things once they completed their studies. 

Time flew and finally, they were away from each other. Yug almost left her after they last met for her answer and got married within some months. Sadhavi was almost on the verge of a broken person. 

Destiny didn’t answer her what was the reason Yug left and suddenly got married. She even tried many times but was helpless. The truth was they deeply loved each other but maybe their destiny didn’t want to have them together and finally, it’s what all destiny wanted then. 

Today, it has been fifteen years. They are in a different city, away from each other, happy, successful but deep down in their heart, their love is eternal and beyond words. No matter what they still are in touch with each other, through heart, through prayers, through what they adore each other. They still feel fortunate to have those beautiful, crazy years together irrespective of what others thought. They still feel fortunate to have each other in the journey of their lives as beautiful memory.
