Voice It

Voice It

A Poem by Sush Krish
"

The poem tells the story of a woman who is faced with domestic violence and how she overcomes it.

"

He returned home drunk.

She asked him, "Why?”

His humanity shrunk.

He made her cry.

They talked next day,

he apologized,

"I'll never behave that way".

She thanked, for he compromised.

It happened again, another night.

About her concerns, she talked.

He wouldn't listen, it led to a fight.

Onto dangerous roads, their relationship walked.

These terrible nights, became frequent.

He suppressed her, social fear kept her quiet.

She prayed to god, to be saved.

For happiness, she craved.

Then, she viewed a female rights play.

Her glass of tolerance broke.

From all fears, she awoke.

She voiced her trauma publicly,

To the police, she did complain.

Her husband was sorry,

He asked her to refrain.

She was assertive,

she sought a divorce.

He was punished, but

Her fight didn't end there, for sure.

She spent selfless nights,

For spreading awareness.

She worked for their rights.

They were women like her former self.

... very well written ... being "assertive" indeed was the way out ... and the awareness the character spread ... is worthy of admiration ... an inspiring write ...
