Drowning

Drowning

A Poem by Becca
"

A dream with a horrifying ending

"

Drowning in a raging river

Through the floods that prevail

Water icy cold

And burning hot

Trying to save what matters most

Someone that needs you now

The falling rain washes you away

The flood waters sweep you under

You are dying

Your lungs gasp that fresh blast of air that comes to pass

You want to save that one person from something unseen

The waters pull and grab at you

You seem to be down forever

Time is nonexistent

You feel only the cold water of the river

Rushing and raging around you

Someone cries your name

You can’t hear them; they only exist in a dream

The one you want is farther away

You must fight the current and try to reach that person in time

To pull them to the banks of the river

The people all watch you

As you try to swim and save this person during a hurricane

The swell is strong and the rip tide is stronger.

You can’t beat the river

The river beats you

The person is saved you are lost

What more can be done to

Become the hero

You can’t prevail

All you can do is drown

In the icy river

Wow, a nice suprise ending Becca. I think this could stand as a metaphor for those who try to help others but wind up loosing themselves. Nice job.
Moral: Give a finger, lose a hand.
