The Lonely Tree

The Lonely Tree

A Poem by Susan Beth Horvath

I am like a lonely Tree

standing in the middle of nowhere

Spreading its branches far and wide

Giving shelter to every passerby

or to a weary traveller,

at times

an animal  would stop by and nibble the leaves.

Many a traveller has come by,

stopped and rested from the heat,

but do I have to wait that long

for only that traveller to come along?

Oh passer by please tell me that

I have not missed him,

hope he has not gone by without stopping

to take shelter from this tree.

Your writing is very deep and shares a great wisdom beneath the surface.... It sounds really nice reading it while listening to the band ''Iron and Wine'' :)

I really like this. The imagery is wonderful, and the word choice sparse yet effective. I am on the fence as to whether you should change passer by to the one word it should be. It works as is.

I love how you compare the tree to yourself. Well done. :)

Such a profound metaphor...I admire you, ma'am.
A charming poem.

She awaits her beloved while helping those who pass her along the way. Sometimes it is difficult to tell who the one we are waiting for may be, so I don't blame her for her concern. Beautiful metaphor and wording my dear.

the lonely tree needs company....and sometimes we feel like this tree, wondering when our true love will come and take shelter with us---

that traveler, that lover, that we might have already missed...

there is sadness, contentment and hope all rolled into this piece...I like the mix of emotions...and the personification makes me feel the tree's emotion.
