An Eruption of Sunday

An Eruption of Sunday

A Poem by Susan Beth Horvath

God even rested this day
Though Shoppers Drug Mart doesn't
Ever
Deep in the trees
Past the houses
The church bells ring
Summoning the faithful
With their five dollar bills
To the pews, to the word
The rest of the world
Lies oblivious
Waiting for it to stop
So they can hear the radio
A little better
Heat creeps in
Even this early
I can't be bothered
To even
Water the begonias
After all
It's Sunday

God even rested this day
Though Shoppers Drug Mart doesn't
Ever

Clever line, had me hooked from the start. I work at a place that doesn't even close on Christmas (it's a restaurant, not a hospital) and it kind of hit home for me. Beautifully articulated.

A glimpse through the window of your mind on Sunday, I was there, it was beautiful, and well written, well done.

Oh I do love this one my dear. :-)
It speaks volumes, plus, I love the Shoppers Drug Mart reference.
:-)
Something just feel good about a poem when you can connect it to home.

Well it is a day of rest
But if not a believer
As one as I
Damn it, lets a meat pie
