1A Chapter by RayleneIt was twelve a.m. I had just got off work I was under a lot of pressure from the boss man. I sat at the local diner waiting for Dennis to bring out my order of flapjacks and sausage; I liked Dennis he was a good Christian man. Dennis worked at the diner with his wife Paula, sweet woman she had a stutter yet you could hardly tell unless you got her mad. Dennis's grandfather opened the diner back in the fourties, his family passed down the business from generation to generation and the next owner was sitting next to me drawing some kind of bunny. I sipped my coffee as Dennis brought me my food "Here you go Delaware." Dennis sat down to talk to me "So how is the big guy." I sighed "Oh you know, just the same old blow hard he always is." Dennis smiled handing me an envelope, I took it "You know I wish other clients were on time like you Dennis." Dennis laughed 'Yeah, but then what would you be doing then?" I smiled and Paula sat next to Dennis "You know Delaware, it is almost Christmas and you know you can always come join us." The small child looked up at me with a smile on her face; she was missing her front teeth "Are you coming over for Christmas uncle Delaware?!" Paula laughed "Oh Penny, you know; your uncle is a very busy man he may not be able to." Penny frowned, I patted her head "I'll try and make it okay honey." Penny smiled and the door chimed I looked back about to say they were closed but my mouth hit the floor. A young woman with short black hair, small curvy figure, wearing a light green dress stood in the door way. She looked over at us "Are you guys open?" Paula stood up "Well we just closed." The woman frowned "Oh, I'm sorry." I stood up "Excuse me mam." She looked at me with her dark emerald green eyes "It's Josephine." I smiled "You see normally they would close up but I think it would be okay to cook one more dish." Paula looked at me "Of course, what will you have dear?" Josephine smiled "Well I will have a hash brown and some bacon to go." I looked at her "Is it not a little late for a young woman such as yourself to be out alone?" Josephine smiled at me " I will be fine, thank you." I could not take my eyes off her "Would you like to seat and eat?" Josephine giggled "No, not tonight I must get home soon." I rubbed my chin "Well then can I walk you to your car?" Josephine looked at me "I walked here." I looked up "Where do you live?" Josephine was timid to answer " Five streets over on Maple avenue in the Stone complex." I nodded "Let me at least give you a lift, it is late." Paula handed her the to go box "It's on the house sweetie." Josephine smiled "Thank you." She then looked at me "Are we going?" I smiled and left my plate on the table saying goodbye to Dennis. "This way my dear." I guided her to my jeep and helped her in; I started the jeep "You know it is not safe out here for young women like you." Josephine smiled "I am twenty and I can take care of my self." I smiled "So what are you doing so dressed up?" She laughed "Oh my friend Monica was having a party down the road." I looked at her "And they let you walk home alone?" She grinned "I have been doing it since I was five thank you very much." I thought I know I would of seen her before. She smiled "You never told me your name?" I looked at her "Just call me Delaware." She laughed "Oh is that what the boys call you ?" I looked at her , "What I said I grew up down the road, I know you are apart of the mafia, but I don't mind; you guys do not scare me." I smiled "Oh and why is that?" Josephine smiled "Because I know behind the guns and blood you boys are human just like me." I smiled as we pulled up to the complex "You are an odd one Miss. Josephine." Josephine smiled "Everyone is in there own way Mr. Delaware". She climbed out of the jeep waving me goodbye as I drove home I tried to remember who that enchanting woman was . © 2016 RayleneReviews
