The mystery behind the brain

The mystery behind the brain

A Poem by Raven Dodson
"

Back a few years ago my dad got in a car wreck and he suffered a brain injury which still affects him today. This poem is just reflecting what I was feeling and how I handle it.

"
A brain is something we use a lot
You cannot live with it-
Sometimes it is hard to live without it
It is like a piece of machinery
Complex and hard to figure out
It hold so much information
Such as a filling cabinet
The information can be everything from a memory to facts
All that information stored has a purpose
Often being very valuable
Then something happens
Something so bad it changes everything forever
Not realizing what you have until you have to face the unknown
I almost lost everything in a blink of an eye
... My dad
Just because of a brain injury
That state of nothingness
You just sitting next to his bed
Hoping that he awakes and turns to you with a smile
Praying to God
Asking ¨Why this family?¨
¨Why us?¨
Holding on by a tread of hope
So close to breaking
But the power of prayer worked
He awoke from the coma
Three months later
Life had changed a lot since the wreck
I could of lost the one I love so dear
...Just because of an accident
It was extremely hard time to cope with and still is
But you have to start fresh, all the way back to the beginning
It is better starting new with him
Then not having him at all
Brand new from head to toe
You never realized how blessed you are
Until you are faced with death
It is an eye opener
Everyday I live, and I just want things to be back where they were
But it will not ever be possible
At least he is happy
It kills you though when he does not know you
I am his daughter...
The knives that pierce your soul when you get that blank stare
and nothing comes out
Some days are better than others
Still the funny person he is
He may not be home sometimes
But I love having him here so he can see every life milestone I make
I know I do not have long
But at least he is getting the love and care he needs
Missing him when I do not see him
Praying for him every second of the day
Asking God to answer my prayers
One step at a time
Slowly getting answers in return
Faithful church, family and friends help
Everyone is so sweet and supportive
I have to live everyday as if it is the last
The brain works in wondrous ways
Just got to get his file cabinet sorted correctly
there is so much to learn and it can be confusing
I am Still finding out the mystery behind the brain

This is great :). you really don't know what you have until it's gone. a painful lesson to be learned indeed, but I think such lessons are a necessary evil; they teach you to value life a lot more. and I hope everything gets better for you hun best wishes and great job.
