What if?

"Wait...", Alice said.

"Stop it!... This, this is no good. I tried. You did.  We tried."

The cup Alice was holding felt suddenly too hot, the air was too thick, her heart was beating heavily... Was this the end? What will she do? She was thinking about what to say but nothing is good enough for Loren. Loren. As her name came into Alice's mind, the cup fell.

"It's ok, I'll clean up. Just leave. You can come and take your stuff later today. Go. Go now!"

She was lost. Alice forgot where the door was. The door? But she couldn't even get up. It's not real. This is all a nightmare. Loren, Loren loves her. She forever will. Was this all a joke? A man? Loren found a man to love. A man? What was she supposed to do now? ... She just watched the beautiful, dark skinned and blue eyed Loren, oh the lovely Loren  had to pick up the shards. 

Her body grew roots into the floor. She couldn't move even if she wanted.

 Loren. Loren left crying. 

"Why, Loren? Why...", Alice whispered to the palms of her hands as they covered her face. "I was never enough, wasn't I?"

Loren entered the bedroom. On top of the bed was a painting. The painting Alice loved so much. The painting Loren hated so much, but never said anything. The painting Loren now took down, angrily. The plainting Loren threw across the room. 

Alice heard a crash upstairs. It must of been the painting hanging on top of the bed. Alice knew how much Loren hated it. She now wonders... what if I the painting never existed? What if she bought  a pretty  painting just for Loren? What if she kissed Loren more often? What if she got a tattoo of  Loren? What if she read poems to Loren? What if she took Loren to see the world? What if she bought Loren more books rather than rings? What if she took a picture of Loren on every day of every week of every month? What if she sang to Loren a lullaby every time she went to bed angry? What if they watched more old movies? What if she rememberd the day of their first kiss, first time they made love, first time they had a fight, first time they said I love you? Would Loren still love her?
