Inky Stigma

Inky Stigma

A Poem by Kayla K
"

I went a little overboard on the quotes, but I love them all too much, so just skip some if you wish. Also, I'm using stigma in the sense of a scar in this poem.

"
"Night time really is the best time to work. All the ideas are there to be yours because everyone else is asleep." ~ Catherine O'Hara

"There they stand, the innumerable stars, shining in order like a living hymn, written in the light." ~ N.P. Willis

"I often think that the night is more alive and more richly colored than the day."~Vincent Van Gogh

"By night, an atheist half believes in God." ~ Edward Young

"Metaphor for the night sky: A trillion asterisks and no explanations."~ Robert Brault

"The day has eyes; the night has ears." ~ David Fergusson

"The stars are the street lights of eternity." ~ Author Unknown

"Night has brought to those who sleep, only dreams they can not keep."~Unknown

"I've written songs {In the dark} I've felt inspired {In the dark} I hide myself {In the dark}" ~ Flyleaf, In The Dark http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QmdOYnA0z3Y

Midnight melodies,
depression daisies.
Icy cold insomnia,
writer's inky stigma.

The whirlwind of my mind,
can't lure me to sleep.
Hurricane makes harbor,
as stars up above keep.

Firefly night swooning,
snowy owl dreaming,
supernova dancing,
insomniacs sparkling.

Writing by the moonlight,
the cartridge wearing thin.
Tracing constellations,
of where the past has been.

Withering in the frost,
depression falls away.
Sleepless human beings,
wanting night to stay.

Chirping fills ears,
tuning to be heard.
Crescent slivered, bipolar sobered.
Gray stardust showered, cursive lettered.
Monsters hollered, nighttime unaltered.

Throw away the sleeping pills.
Darkness fills, light away.
Writers alive in the night,
hide away within the day.

Though the memories may swirl,
twinkle stars create the beauty.
Asterisks in the universe kingdom,
like a whole new shining city.

Covered behind letters,
depression lowered well.
The only nonjudgmental,
the cure to personal hell.

Still fireflies must fall asleep,
and the world will soon awake.
So I'll put on a smile fake,
for everybody's sake.

The waves of diseases,
reach into my heart.
Sunbeams reach horizon,
and my world falls apart.

Lurking in the light,
for midnight I long.
Nighttime melodies,
the only place,
to hear my song.

Dream catcher creature,
I'll read you tonight.
Staying up once again,
the insomniac's fight.

My inky stigma,
I'll bleed you soon.
Just sit and wait,
for kingdom of moon.

Author's Note

Kayla K
My insomnia nights are when I come up with all my ideas lately, so this had to be done.

I do not know if I have a sleeping disorder of any kind, although I have a guess that I do, because I am never able to sleep at night (as in most nights it takes hours to fall asleep) even though I am exhausted. After I do finally sleep, I sleep for long amounts of time (on weekends), even up to 13 hours. I'm a teenager, what can I say? Even after getting large amounts of sleep, I'm still just as tired. The sleep does nothing for me, whatsoever. I sleep worse when there is a full mean. Is it a sign, that I can write better by the moonlight? Who's to say? Would I ever get sleeping pills of any kind? No. All my best thoughts occur in the dark. It's my own personal torture, to be tired at all times, but it helps create some great thoughts.

I liked this poem a lot. The subject matter is something that everyone can relate to on this site, I bet: "Writers alive in the night, hide away within the day." soo true XD
I've seen a lot of your poems and you use pretty much the same style in every one, but I think that here the concise, lyrical verses flow better than usual and have more impact, so really good job Imo.

An excellent work, wonderful wording. And its something i must love is its theme and good treatment. You're right that night is the best time for put across our thoughts. This is such a superb piece, i love this work dear friend.

Wow, very good imagery and wording. I like the theme too, very interesting. Sounds peaceful to sit and write when alone and everyone else is sleeping. Because the only difference between you and those asleap is that you dont need to sleep to dream and you bring yours to life. Very interesting. A favorite.

I can picture someone with a problem in there life wakeing up an feeling that this is the only way to wake-up. I feel the same way every time I wake-up...

A very well thought out poem. I feel you on the insomnia part. There was a time when I had to sleep with a pad of paper beside my bed because my mind was running over time and everytime I'd get close to falling asleep, another idea would come to me and I'd have to write it down. It's still like that sometimes. The longest I ever slept at once, was 24 hours. My dad took me to the doctor and they gave me caffeine pills because I was having really bad headaches, then on the way home he gave something I wasn't supposed to take because it had aspirin in it, then he just kept giving me medicine and I slept for a whole day. I woke up for a few minutes, and went back to sleep. Lol. My mom thought something was wrong with me.
