"There goes my hero. Watch him as he goes. There goes my hero. He's ordinary." ~ Paramore, My Hero (Original by Foo Fighters.) http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=K7WutJSda6M
"A hero is an ordinary individual who finds the strength to persevere and endure in spite of overwhelming obstacles." ~ Christopher Reeve
"A hero is no braver than an ordinary man, but he is brave five minutes longer." ~ Ralph Waldo Emerson "A hero is somebody who is selfless, who is generous in spirit, who just tries to give back as much as possible and help people. A hero to me is someone who saves people and who really deeply cares." ~ Debi Mazar Standing up strong, making it through. I want you to know, I look up to you.
There's scars on your hands, from where you once slipped. There's scars on your heart, from where you have tripped.
You've been there for him, your son close to death. You're waiting for him, to take his last breath.
Time ticks away, wearing you down. We all know, in this small town.
"Any day now," are words that you say. Sometimes I wonder, how often you pray.
Do you cry at night, when no one can hear? Are you as strong, as you seem to appear?
I have once seen you cry, a man so very broken. How may hospital floors have you this year trodden?
He was given until sixteen, but we've been past that year. "He'll be gone any time" are the words that I hear.
Giving back, you've done enough. Now who will come, help you stay tough?
False hope won't work. The end is in sight. I wish you didn't have to lose this fight.
So many have hated, the man in front of me. I wish all of those haters, could only see.
Behind hard faces, the true you hides. Barely making it, moving with the tides.
In my eyes, you're a hero. Please remember me, as you stare out the hospital window.
Hero strong, you've been here all along.
Standing up strong,
making it through.
I want you to know,
that I look up to you.
This is dedicated to my technology teacher (I'm not releasing his name.) His teenage son has a immunity disorder, and is not supposed to live much longer. He was supposed to die months ago, but he's gotten this far. My teacher is truly the strongest man I've ever met. This year, when he had to speak at a school event, when he talked about his son, he cried on stage in front of tons of people. It was the bravest thing I've ever seen somebody do. Since then, he's also won teacher of the year award. When he won he told me, "I was stunned. Students have always hated me until this year. Thank you." He is my hero, even if he doesn't always realize it. Someday he'll figure out why I hang out in his room whenever I can.

Wow, such a touching and heartwarming story, and poem. I felt goosebumps go up my arms while I read this. I feel the exact same way about someone that has helped me and that I truly look up too. Someone that speaks from their heart and went through so much and takes in so many things, still survives. An amazing and clear poem. A strong and beautiful write. :)
I'm a cyclone of myself, a caterpillar delight still finding my wings. A balloon stuck up in the clouds, no one can bring me down from my high. Shattered into pieces, be careful when you pick .. more..
