Synecdoche

Synecdoche

A Poem by Superconge
"

I've had this for awhile, but I've never written poetry so I wasn't sure I should upload it.

"

A synecdoche (/sɪˈnɛkdəkiː/, si-NEK-də-kee; from Greek συνεκδοχή synekdoche , meaning "simultaneous understanding") is a figure of speech in which a term for a part of something refers to the whole of something, or vice versa.

I feel alone in this world.

Sometimes I cry out my regrets,

Just for the satisfaction of knowing,

There may still be a part of me,

Which can still feel joy

And not just sorrow.

I’ll look back upon the moonlit dusk

Just to find that what was once there

Disappeared into scattered ashes,

Never once befalling my sparkling eyes

Never even falling onto my pale skin

Never wanting to return back to it’s home.

If I followed the dust, would I find what was lost?

Would what I lost refill my heart,

With the love it longs for so deeply.

No. I suppose it wouldn't,

If it were to do that,

Than maybe my being would have purpose,

And not have to follow routine forever.

It’s not like I care for caring,

But if it came back, would I care?

No. I suppose I wouldn't.

So I’ll leave the woulds and ifs,

To somebody who can still,

Somehow, in some way,

Care.

Author's Note

Superconge
The last bit is awful. A synecdoche is related as the emotions in this poem are just part of my being, yet I find it hard to conceive it's not able to describe all of me.
