Myth

Myth

A Poem by Sunshine Kid

It’s missing
But what?
It’s the unnamed
No name
Flash of
Something.
Dancing around
To others
As if they
Deserved it.
Maybe they do.
Who am I to say
As I shake
Shudder
Moan
Mutter incoherently
Into unconsciousness
Where I beg for
Solace
On my knees
Begging
Pleading
Praying
To the unknown
And the
Unnamed.
But no sleep
Comes to those
Who wait.
I look out
And see the mermaids
Splashing
In the sea.
They sing of
Feelings I’ll
Never know
Taunting me with
Their beauty and
Knowledge.
I let my toes
Into the sea
Which has now turned
Red by the blood
Of the
Suffering
And let it
Lap my flesh
Seeming to invite
But I know
That I’m
Never allowed to
Enter.
The sea-maids
Are gone
And above I hear
A phoenix’s cry
As the sea turns redder
And as the tears
Of the fiery myth
Fill it up.
“Why do you cry?”
I call up
To the flame
And it replies
In a tongue unknown.
I feel the night
Around me
And the bird has gone
But so has the sun.
I feel a pulsating heat
In my
Palms
And looking
Down I see
My gift.
I smile down
At my
Own
Myth
And treasure it
And
Swallow
It
Whole.
