My World

My World

A Poem by Sunshine Kid

It’s strange
Being between
Reality and dream
Like I so often
Am.
I hear my mother
Tapping away
I hear my father
Swinging his club
But I also see
Dragons
Calling my name
And gumdrop
Rain
And gold
At the end
Of my rainbows
But most of all
I see him
Who can’t
Actually exist
And her
Who doesn’t actually
Talk
But they remain
By me
Near me
With me
Holding me
And promising me
That nothing
Can stand
In my way
(Which is
Sometimes humorous
As the dragons
Nuzzle their
Shoulders)
They disappear
As reality
Punches me
In my stomach
Forcing me
To realize what’s
Here
And I hate
It.
What is so wrong
About my
Dream world
Where anything
Is mine
And everything
Is everyone’s?
What is so
Wrong about a
Place where
You can
Eat the
Rain?
Where you can
Travel via
Dragon?
Where he
And
She
Are constantly
With you
Never
Ever
Letting you
Say
“I can’t”?
“Because, my dear
It doesn’t
Exist”

“Says who?”
