Memories

Memories

A Poem by Sunshine Kid

They think
That just because
I smile
Through
The strife
That I’m
Indestructible.
They think
That just because
I can laugh
Until I can’t
Breathe
That I
Must
Be
Perfect.
When things
Turn
Sour
And I’m left
With the memories
I cling
Onto for dear
Life
They refuse to
Believe that
I’m
Gone.
“Not her!”
“Not possible!”
“The smiling chick?
‘Course not!”
That’s when I
Disappear.
That’s when I
Run away.
My memories
Keep me alive
While my smile
Keeps
Me
Drowning.
I’m fake.
I act
To get through
My day
My week
My life.
They refuse to
Believe that it was
All
Lies.
But now I’m
Stuck
But am willing
To
Put the pieces
Back
Together.
Keep the memories
In the front
Of
My
Mind.
Keep them close.
Keep them safe.
Keep them real.
