I Swear

I Swear

A Poem by Sunshine Kid

I swear
I saw someone
Walking
Slowly
Beside me.
I could feel
The heat
They gave off
And the ends of
My hair
Brushed their shoulder
And tickled
Their skin.
I could see them
Though their face
A blur
But I did see
The figure
The shape
So clearly.
I swear
I talked to
Someone.
It was deep
And
Scary.
I cried
But they brushed
My tears
Away.
I swear
That the person
Was in the room
I know
Was abandoned.
I saw them
Hunched over
Working.
I entered the room
Quietly
Not wanting
Of course
To disturb
The
Work
But the person
Looked up
And
Smiled at me
And sat
Me
Down
Undisturbed.
That person
I know cannot exist
And I know
That
No one else
Knows
That they’re there.
And as the
Injections
Become more
Frequent
And the colors
Fade to white
I know
That what I did
Must have been
Wrong.
Now
The person is
Slipping away
And after each
Dream
I wake up
To
Stillness.
The person visited
Me
Once
In this new place
I was in.
They smiled
The smile I knew
So well
And they told me
That they were leaving.
They vanished
Without walking.
Just vanished.
Lights are shining
In my
Eyes
And murmurs
Are apparent
But I don’t respond.
I never respond
Again.
