Fear

Fear

A Poem by Sunshine Kid

Look at the fears
Of the world.
They aren’t
What they
Seem.
The fear of
Knives
Is the fear
Of pain
Caused by those
You wouldn’t
Understand.
The fear of
Fire
Is the fear
Of love
Of passion
Of thinking
You’re unworthy.
The fear of
Heights
Is the fear
Of falling
And not
Being
Caught.
Fear around us
All
Closes in
And catches
Us
Like the
Venomous
Fangs
Pulling us in
To a cave
Off the map.
Travelers may leave
Only footprints
(But they
Always break
The rules).
Standing on
New ground
With new fear
Every step
In a new direction
Spread out
In ocean mist
Settling down
Leaving salty
Residue on the skin
And
Hair.
Every new fear
Leaves tears
Permanently left
In their spots
In the ground.
Nothing blooms.
Nothing ever blooms
Except fear
Fear will be with us
Forever.
The feeling
Of a broken heart
Is clichéd
And tattered
And forgotten
For no one’s heart
Is ever mended
Not really
Not ever.
