EVEN BUTTERFLIES LET GO

EVEN BUTTERFLIES LET GO

A Poem by Dreamer

One day

I walked by a flower garden,

A kaleidoscope of butterflies arose.

Red mixed with yellow,

Some were golden, some were blue.

Gay feelings, for a while, had been strange to feel,

And then I saw a caterpillar on a tree.

The day it all became clear to me.

Even butterflies must let go

The dream weaver taking hold of me

Climbed into my head,

Creating dreams of fallacy.

Yet, I crawled out of my mind

Just in time

To save myself.

This realization,

This dawning,

I know now

Even butterflies need to let go

Eyes burn red

So emotions fool mind into believing something else.

Making from nothing-

A promise of nothing,

False sense of contentment

But even the sky lets go of the rain,

To cry life down the flower beds,

Of the garden from which the knowledge came to me that

Sometimes the only option we have is to leave.

To live

We must release

So we can inhale

Dream weaver come reclaim your hindering dreams.

-Maybe one day your premonition may come to be.

But for now your lack of certainty

I see as only a lack of garantee.

Winged creature lands on my hand.

Lifts off as I relinquish my thoughts of you.

Watching it glide throught the sky

I breathe to it a word of goodbye

"Mariposa, you taught me to walk away- if I ever wish to live again..."

Author's Note

Dreamer
Mariposa- spanish 4 butterfly
The idea of using the butterfly to talk abt walking away from possible a hopeless situation , bad place etc came after looking at the different changes and cycles tht a butterfly must go through b4 for it fully develops. How it knows when the end of one chapter in its life has come and willing accepts the other. Moves on- to live- to develop into it full potential. tht being said...life goes on, what r u gonna do?

'But even the sky lets go of the rain,
to cry life down the flower beds...'

I love that metaphor.

Through your writing, I personally think you have a way
of triggering nostalgia,
of reminding the reader about the beauty
and simple things of life.

YOU'RE GOOD !!!!!

excellent poem. I've recently been through this, I've had to let go of a bad situation and move on. It's difficult at first and you sometimes think it wasn't worth it. But in the end you will find out soon it was the right decision. Interesting take on such an ambiguous, but universal topic. Great job!

Knowing when to cut your losses and wal away is a sign of maturity
Somethings just aren't intended to be permanent
Retain the good memories and dump the negative Tomorrow is another chance to find what you are looking
