His Woman

His Woman

A Poem by Sunny
"

inspired by the book The Good Earth by Pearl S Buck

"

From The Good Earth

The slave girl

Tall figure

Strong body

This was his woman

He took her by the hand

The woman beside him

Seized her

This woman was his

Now wholly his own

She mended

She cooked

Fearing his laughter

His woman of work

A dull and common creature

She was, after all

Only a woman

She has not beauty

Rough the skin upon her hands

She was ugly and gaunt

She was altogether hideous

Fearing his laughter

She obeyed him

The woman watched

But she never talked

His woman of work

Ugly and gaunt

She has not beauty

His repulsion towards her

The liver diseased

A rock in the womb

The stomach disintegrated

The heart barely moves

This was his woman

This woman was his

The woman will die

His heart barely moves
