Similes Are Useless

Similes Are Useless

A Poem by Destiny
"

first thing I wrote in a while...

"

Like rising smoke
I dissipate
The faint trace of a face you never knew
Like the shell you outgrew
I was left behind
And like the earth and the sun
You turned away from me
Stealing my breath and piece of mind
And I can’t find the door
I’m trying to leave but
Believe me
It’s not easy
'Cause
Like the rain
I remain cold and unforgiving
Living in time
Moving through space
And wasting air
You’re never there
In my dreams I mean
And it seems to me that my body knows something my mind does not
And like a rock
You were firm
Too firm in fact
So the acts that followed were not my fault
My heart is weak
But you knew that
Just like I know
You can’t let go of what was
But that was long ago
And the embers are all but dead now
How that happened we’ll never know
And like the first frost
The words we had in common soon died
The bitter cold was to much for such a delicate thing
Like
My
Heart
