" I'm bored"I said, "Let's go save the world"
but we only got as far as the backyard.
Fueled by the smoke in your lungs, you preached your truth to the audiance of one
And fueled by your words in my ears, I called out the demons in me
Your voice warmed my soul so the cold was ignored
And the earth never looked as beautiful as it did that night
The moon illuminated our piece of paradice, but most of the light we had made ourselves
As I watched your words dance through the air I became nothing
The insignificance of life became our anthem
We sang loud and strong into the night
Never making much sense
We forged on through the night
Conquering reason in our stride
Merciless soldiers taking to prisoners
Consumed by passion Love was not safe
Neither deserveing the other we burried the blackest depths of our hearts deep inside each other
Without needing to mention, the penalty of betrayal was death
After conquering the backyard we retreated into our own minds
Never to return again
We're only rewarded the memory of the night we almost saved the world
This a charming little drama. It is very intimate and there is a wit about it...and a reality. But it is the intimacy of the two of you just being content together that the poem captures really well. And maybe being happy ourselves as far as we can is a very good practical step towards saving the world!
