InsomniopolisA Poem by Jimmy DeadmanPhila-f*****g-delphia
Haunted in the streets
You know this city never sleeps It just can't, no it can't Like the answer to the question That endlessly repeats Yes, it does, oh, yes, it does Spilling over to the suburbs To the country, to the mountains With all that soap those jokers poured Into our mother's fountains It'll wash and it'll dry It will clean all of our mouths out Rinse and dry by fire Just don't forget to spit The bully is a dying breed So, what'll we do with our sympathy We can lock it up, ship it out to sea I'll take you and you take me Sitting on the sidewalk Smoking cigarettes This heat is killing me, yes indeed Nothing in my pockets I'm saving up, I bet you'll disagree Fine by me Everyone is intervening Intervention for attention They're filling up their buckets Drowning kids with the intention Of saving lives, shaping minds Keeping people in their houses Everybody grab some spouses Let's live in the dark The bully is a dying breed So, what'll we do with our sympathy We can sell it off for a minimal fee Once I was blind but now I see I'm wishing I could sleepwalk Almost everywhere I go Keep it slow, take it slow Keep my eyes closed to the rhythm My feet beat against the stone Make it fast, take it slow I've felt my heart, it's racing But it always comes in last I thought I bet against it But I lost everything I had Keep in mind, we're out of time For putting people in their places Our good, good graces Will have to do for now My mind is drowning in a sea Of shame, success and disbelief You bet your a*s there ain't no lifeboats I hope to hell we stay afloat © 2014 Jimmy DeadmanAuthor's Note
